New Zealand has joined 16 other nations in a fortnight long festival of table tennis in Noumea, New Caledonia.  A large squad of 14 has arrived and participated in international training camps, after completion of the World Cadets qualifiers.

Ruofei was pushed hard by Nai Xin Jiang in completing a 1 / 2 combo for NZ in the girls event.  But, our boys were unable to stop an improved Jake Duffy in taking gold for Australia.  Dean Shu had the consolation of taking a place in the Oceania Cadets team alongside Ruofei.  Victor Ma started in superb form, but was unable to continue it into the later rounds.

ITTF Oceania ran a forum today for young women in table tennis, which was well received.

Next on the agenda is the GJC events, with 11 kiwis competing against opponents from France, USA, Canada, Korea, Chinese Taipei as well as our near neighbours.

All 3 boys teams qualified for the main draw, including Cadet A team of Victor Ma, Dean Shu and Kevin Lin, Cadet B team of Brooklyn Lea and Xavier Lea, and Junior boys team of Nathan Watson and Daniel Lowe.

ITTF Preview of the event is here.
