Lucas Dasent didn't expect to lift a national trophy, but when he did, he could only do it with nine fingers.
The 15-year-old from Cornwall Cricket Club was one of the only central Auckland-based players to play for the region's under 17 side which took out the nationals in Christchurch last month.
They won five of six games - beating teams from Canterbury, Central, Otago and Northern - with Dasent playing a crucial role.
And he did it all with a broken finger.
