Hi everyone,
As a new season of sport approaches it is time to start thinking about creating the draws in SKED.
Here are some helpful pre-season tips to assist you with building your competitions in SKED.
- Create a test competition
Create a test competition containing all grades to visibly see who has entered teams and who may need a reminder. This also gives you visibility of team entry numbers so you can start thinking about how your upcoming competition will be structured. - Update Organisation Settings
Review your Locations and Venues in Organisation Settings. Add any new ones but do not delete any existing venues that are not required this season as these can not be re-created in a future season. Venues that are not being used this season can simply be removed as Preferred Venues in Grade Default settings. - Confirm Grade Default settings
Review the Grade Default settings for each grade and make any necessary changes. For example, preferred times or total game duration may have changed since last season. Remember that the grade default information set in Organisation Settings will automatically populate each phase of your competition with the option to modify in phase settings if required. - Venue Blackouts
Any venues that are known to be unavailable for a period of time can have a Blackout set against them in Organisation Settings > Venue Blackouts. Once a blackout is set, SKED will by default not auto-assign any fixtures to the venue during the blacked out period. If you wish to use a blacked out venue it can be manually assigned in Comp Builder in either the Draw Modal or Venue View. - Set club/school names
Check your club/school names in the Organisation list and abbreviate them if necessary to improve the user experience when viewing the draw from a mobile device. Up to 20 characters can be used as an abbreviated name. - Home/Away competitions
Modify any home preferred venues. Remember that these can be grade specific and can also be arranged in the order of preference you wish them to be used. - Closing dates for team entries
To avoid unexpected late team entries or withdrawals, set closing dates in SKED before creating the draws. Once team entry closing dates are set, organisations will need to advise you if they have teams to enter or withdraw which gives you the option of how you manage each request.
Improving the user experience of SKED is one of our priorities and we are always grateful to receive feedback or suggestions of things to make Competition Administrators roles more efficient.
