Careers in Demand—Planners There is a strong need for urban and regional planners across New Zealand. Have you got any students who are keen to learn more.
Urban and Environmental Planning is a great option for those interested in an interdisciplinary degree with excellent job opportunities whilst studying and once graduated.
There are no specific school subject requirements—just University Entrance.
Space Up! is a high school club which is free to join—and is aimed at girls from year 9 to year 13, although any high school students in Aotearoa are welcome to join. It is a platform for young people to learn, engage and connect with others interested in space, and to have opportunities to engage with women mentors working across the space sector in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Members will have immediate access (through the website, but also available as an iPhone and Android app) to a range of resources, including the online Space Up! Community Forum, provided thanks to the generous support of the University of Canterbury, where they can access a range of space resources - including but not limited to live and recorded presentations, workshops, webinars, networking events, and opportunities for engagement with women already on space career trajectories. These resources and opportunities are designed to help them develop their enthusiasm and knowledge of space and learn more about Aotearoa’s space sector and the types of careers they could pursue in space. The club will also offer opportunities for members to participate in exciting space-related activities and in-person events.
With in-person launch events planned for later in the school year, we have an exciting first activity for students who sign up to Space Up! in March—a logo design competition! Students have a chance to see their awesome logo for Space Up! emblazoned across our websites, on t-shirts, and other merchandise. The WISANZ team can’t wait to see all the stellar designs from our creative young space wāhine!
Students can learn more about Space Up! and join the club online WISANZ website www.womeninspace.co.nz/space-up . Students are required to use their New Zealand high school email address, ending in .school.nz, to sign up for the club.
Note for High School Teachers/Careers Advisors: WISANZ also invites teachers and other staff at New Zealand High Schools, particularly Career Advisors, to also join Space Up! You will see options in the sign up form on our website to select that you are a teacher or staff at a high school in Aotearoa New Zealand. Teachers/staff must also use their New Zealand high school email address, ending in .school.nz, to sign up for the club. Please ensure you read the Terms and Conditions for Space Up! membership and the Space Up! Code of Conduct on our website before signing up - to explain eligibility and the steps in place to ensure Space Up! is a welcoming, safe (as well as fun!) environment for everyone.
