Tena koutou, welcome to our MRL Board Newsletter.

This platform will be used to share the Minutes from the latest meeting via link and updating the latest ‘in development’ investigations from behind the scenes.  We will also provide descriptions of workload for different aspects of running MRL.

Investigation in progress:  We would like to start using LiveScoring for Manawatu competitions.

Lawrence and Kiri have had a meeting with Sporty and discovered there is quite a bit of background work we (MRL) need to have done to make this happen.  We currently have two websites that don't talk to each other so we need to consolidate these into one Sporty website - this will then be able to ‘talk’ to the GameDay app that does the LiveScoring.

We also discovered the email address we have had on the website that Kiri was going to take over isn't compatible or accessible.  We are getting this sorted as well.

This means coordinating with Sporty and Yorb and will incur quite significant costs.  This is very much a long term project but will put us well in place for heading to NZRL events where LiveScoring is widely used.

Role Description: Administrator - 10 hrs p/w (extension of hours to come)

Due to the restricted hours this role is currently focusing on Funding, Communications and Sporty.  A significant amount of learning (and teaching) is required within each of these criteria so this will be a slow and steady process.

Kiri's overall aim is to set up a central database for all MRL data and communications, MCZ have provided us with a laptop.  This will mean when any of our roles are handed to the next person, the information will all be laid out ready to move forward.

Our administrator is paid from MCZ and works under Lisa Reweti with most liaising happening with Sam and Lawrence who have the current knowledge of MRL workings.

Funding - looking at the templates for applications, learning the different places to apply and the criteria for each as well as the dates they are due.  Funding is sought for our teams that travel outside the district but also for our fields, referees what else do we use funding for??

Communicatons - this has always been a sore point between MRL and MCZ so Kiri is working to establish better and more frequent communication with both Lisa and Jacko. Comms covers incoming enquiries from the public via the website (once we have this corrected), incoming enquiries from Clubs, Districts, Zone and NZRL as well as from PNCC, sponsors, funders, referees, accountants, technical advisors, Sporty etc. and outgoings in reply to the above and our own outgoing queries.  Also included is networking within and outside our District  - for perspective I am receiving an average of 5 emails per weekday from MCZ, our GM and Chair alone plus all the registration transfer emails from Sporty for the District. Once the admin email address is updated on the website I expect this to increase significantly which will use a lot of my 10hrs.

Sporty - this is massive to learn all of the workings available.  All clubs have access to Online Registrations and Team Builder.  This eNewsletter is one of the new learnings and looks to be a fantastic way to push information to our Board and our wider community and potentially other targeted groups.  We are also able to search our player database with certain criteria and add notes to individual players to name a couple of features.

MCZ also contact our admin to confirm registrations of players, Coaches and Managers heading to representative play.

This is an overview of the role, there are definitely other factors not mentioned however hopefully this will give you some insight into what the role entails.

Thank you for all you do to grow the game of Rugby League in our District.

General Manager - Lawrence Erihe                                    Administrator - Kiri Rimene
