Welcome to this week's newsletter! News - This Sunday is a club cafe run from Waikanae Beach. Details below. If you're a club member, the club will buy you coffee and a muffin. Good aye?
- So far, the following people have confirmed for the club trip to the North Island Cross Country Champs on 6 July: Graeme Stevens, Anna Douglas, Judith Taylor, Craig Thomson, Mia Thomson, Alvirg Busa, Finlay Bland and Tom Bland. If you're not one of these people and you want the club to pay your entry, you need to let me know in the next week or so (respond to this newsletter, the Facebook post or e-mail tpbland@gmail.com) so we can sort the race entry out. It's looking like individuals will sort their own accommodation.
- National Cross Country Champs - These are in the Wellington region again this year, so take advantage of a local chance to run the nationals. They are on Sunday 4 July at Harcourt Park, Upper Hutt. The club will refund your entry fee provided you use the special code for discounted entries for Wellington club members. Get in touch to get the code if you're a club member, then enter online here.
- Lost property - 1 red printed t shirt and 1 pink Nike backpack. If either of these are yours, let us know and we'll reunite you. If both are yours, learn to be more careful (but still let us know and we'll reunite you). Also Graeme Stevens lost a metal drink bottle at the Dorne Cup. If you picked it up, let us or Graeme know so he can get it back. No questions asked...
- The winter club programme is on our website here. Print it out, stick it on your fridge and get along to as many events as possible!
- You can register with the club online now.
Race results - Well done to all junior club members that took part in the Kāpiti Interschools Cross Country last week. As far as I can tell, there were wins for Mia Thomson (Year 3 Girls) and Jack Blake (Year 7 Boys).
- McKaela Woodward (Year 8 Girls), Otis Blake (Year 8 Boys), Jack Blake and Finlay Bland (Year 7 Boys) all qualified for the Regional Cross Country Champs at Mackays Crossing on 2 July.
- Results here.
Please let me know if you've taken part in an event (preferably before Wednesday) so it can be included in the newsletter (we do really like to celebrate performances). Training article of the week- Each week, we highlight a training article that might be of interest to runners and triathletes. If you've read an interesting training article recently, let us know and we'll include it in an upcoming Training article of the week!
- It was so cold on my morning run this morning, I was sure I would aggravate my old achillies injury. So this week's article is all about whether you are more prone to injury if you run in the morning.
Upcoming eventsClub and interclub events (see our club calendar for more) - Sunday 23 June - Club cafe run, Waikanae Beach. Meet opposite Long Beach on Tutere Street for 2pm. Coffee and a muffin after.
- Sunday 30 June - Wellington Marathon (Wellington marathon champs) and half marathon and 10km and kids mile.
- Saturday 6 July - North Island Cross Country Champs, Taupō. See above for details.
- There are a number of relay events coming up over the next couple of months - Halcombe Relay (27 July), Bays Relay (10 August), Marton to Whanganui Relay (14 September NOT 7 September as it say in the winter programme) and NZ Road Relay champs (Feilding, 5 October).
- As most people know, I love a good relay. They're a great way to combine two of my favourite activities - running and good-natured banter. I would love the club to be well represented at as many of these events as possible.
- Put these dates in your diary and be ready for the call when we start putting teams together. You won't regret it!
