NELSON COLLEGE RUGBY NEWS

16th June 2023

We depart on Monday morning to Christchurch for the annual Shirley Boys' High School Winter Sports Exchange and we cannot wait. This is always an enjoyable event between to very competitive schools. In 2021, we travelled to Christchurch and woke up to snow covering the fields and the temperature near zero! That was an experience for our teams. We are hoping this will not be the case come Tuesday, however rain is forecast. If you are in Christchurch and want to come and support our boys, please check out the schedule below. We'd love to see you there.

1st XV News

The 1st XV have had a great first half of the season with 6 wins in a row placing them at the top of the Miles Toyota Premiership table and looking in a good position to secure a home semi final. On Saturday the team had another solid win over a good Selwyn Combined Schools team, winning 45-17. Callum Robertson has a great game on the wing, with some big runs leading to one try. Kobe Brownlee also played one of his best games this year, being physical in the tackle and carrying the ball very well and scoring twice. Zyon Ford came away with 20 points with a quality kicking display and crossing for two tries also. Well done to the team and to the coaching team on a big last 10 days.

Tries to Zyon Ford 2, Kobe Brownlee 2, Sione Mafi, Callum Robertson & Blake Craddock. Zyon Ford added 5 conversions.

Next Game: 12:00pm vs. Shirley Boys' High School at SBHS No.1 on Tuesday. Please get along if you can to support them!

The 97th Quadrangular Tournament is coming up very soon and is being held at Wellington College this year on the 26th - 29th June. The team will be named after the Shirley Boys' exchange. This is going to be an exciting occasion with our 1st XV looking to win for the 5th year in a row which we have never achieved previously. Dating back to 1925, Nelson College have won Quad 28 times, Wellington College 38 times, Whanganui Collegiate 21 & Christ's College 17 times. We hope Old Boys', parents, and supporters in Wellington are able to get to Wellington College and cheer our team on.

Kind Regards
