NELSON COLLEGE RUGBY NEWS

29th June 2023

What a great tournament the 97th Quadrangular Tournament in Wellington was. Yes it was disappointing for our boys on Tuesday losing to Whanganui Collegiate, but the games were awesome to watch. Every game had great moments of skill and boys putting all their effort into helping their team win. Congratulations to Wellington College on a great win at home. It was well deserved on your home soil. We are really excited at Nelson College to be hosting this event at the beginning of July next year. Thank you to our coaches and management for doing such a great job at Quad with our team. They played a excellent second half against Christ's College to get an important win, which guaranteed us a home semi final on July 29th in the Miles Toyota Premiership. Thank you also to all our Old Boys', parents, staff and supporters who attended Quad and supported our team. The 1st XV have a break now and play their final round robin game against St Thomas of Canterbury College in Christchurch on Saturday 22nd of July. Enjoy the break team, you deserve one.

Age Grade Rugby

We had 5 teams playing over the weekend in what turned out to be a really muddy day for dry cleaners to sort! Thank you Master Valet. Our teams came away with 4 wins which is a great result and sees four of our teams in the top 4 for their competitions. The Tasman Rugby Union are working on the draw for Term 3 at the moment and this will be shared soon. However, the U15 & U17 competitions will be split into top 4 and bottom 4 (3 in the U15 competition). From here all teams will play a three week round robin and the top two teams will play off for 1st, the next two for 3rd place. This means every team is guaranteed Rugby until August 12th which is great. There will be lots of Rugby ahead for all our boys and hopefully we can finish the season strong. Enjoy this weekends games and the school holidays ahead.

Sevens in Term 4

The Condors Sevens Tournament which Nelson College attended last year has been moved from Auckland too Mt Maunganui and will run from December 2nd - 5th. To get into this event, we have to qualify through the local Tasman Secondary Schools Sevens Tournament scheduled for 25th October in Nelson. This event will be a combined tournament with a Year 9 & 10 grade, girls, and Senior Boys (Year 11 - 13) grade. Put this on your calendar as we plan to enter lots of teams!

2023 Nelson College Rugby Pathway Programme
