Career EQ—Career Planet - Kaye Avery

Friday 9th February, 2024 - 12.30 pm

CareerEQ understands that many people, particularly young people, are now uncertain about their prospects for a successful future. Our accustomed ways of thinking about our place in the world are being challenged by the lifestyles we have grown accustomed to. The advent of artificial intelligence and climate change will bring about a significant change in the world of work, rendering many jobs and career paths obsolete, while at the same time creating many new opportunities that we are yet to discover.

In order to successfully navigate the challenges of the changing world of work, it will be important for us to have resilience, self-awareness, and confidence to make meaningful transitions in our careers. When we have a clear understanding of our ‘Why’, we can more easily identify the ‘What’ we want to pursue and then determine the ‘How’ to get there. This will help us make informed decisions about our careers and find fulfilment in our working lives.

CareerPlanet’s career inquiry process is a response to our uncertain future. It is designed to empower individuals to explore their motivations and discover what they want to be involved with to make a difference. This is a tool designed to map individuals’ unique skills and interests, helping them gain clarity on where they can best contribute what is right for them.

Teacher Training

The Ministry’s Education Workforce team is undertaking mahi to promote the visibility of pathways into teaching. In late October the MOE engaged with ITE providers, students, schools, and peak bodies. This engagement gave the MOE an understanding of the ITE pathways into teaching and a valuable insight into the challenges and opportunities that exist within our current ITE landscape.

One of the big challenges the Ministry of Education heard from their engagement was that the ITE pathways into teaching were not clear to potential students and schools interested in supporting people in their communities to become qualified teachers. In response to this, the MOE has worked with the Teaching Council to develop an interactive “programme finder” tool. This tool allows users to filter ITE programmes by specific features, such as location, sector, mode of delivery, and language of delivery. The tool can be accessed directly through the link here: Become a real influencer. Go Teach – Careers in Education

The Ministry believes this will be a useful starting point for people interested in teaching to understand the range of ITE options available to them that can accommodate their personal circumstances and needs.
