NOVEMBER 2024

Well the season has kicked off just in the way we would have wanted with great weather and hundreds of Nippers and lifeguard coaches getting out there and having fun!

A few important pieces in this newsletter including the updated season calendar, notes for Surf Lifesaving NZ, and information about some changes for our competing members.

Remember that you can order your merchandise anytime using the link below and Lauren will be at the club most Sunday afternoons for trying items on, collecting orders, dropping off black togs for screen printing, or for buying on the spot.

COMPETITOR WRIST BANDS

SLSNZ have moved to a different system for marshalling athletes and recording their times over the finish lines.

All Craft and Junior athletes will now need to pick up a wrist band that will be personalised to them at their first carnival/competition.

These wrist bands will be scanned by officials when athletes are marshalled; therefore if an athlete doesn't have a wrist band they cannot compete.

When you/your athlete is issued with their wrist band, please

  • Name it.
  • And whilst you are at, please name rashies and skull caps too.

Any lost wrist bands can be replaced at the athletes expense and will cost $10 per wrist band, so please do look after them.

Boat crews do not need a wrist band and are exempt from this at the moment.

Outside Shower

We now have a shower installed at the top of the ramp.  Please use it.

We would like to reduce the amount of sand that is traipsed up the stairs and brought into the club and would like to encourage all of you to use the shower after training or just walking along the beach.

…. And some messages from SLSNZ

Club Membership & involvement in SLSNZ activities
A reminder to all clubs that in order to be involved in SLSNZ sport activities, every person (competitor, official, manager, coach etc) needs to be a current and active member of their club and be registered on the SLSNZ database for the current season.

We also encourage all members to keep their contact information up to date to ensure they receive any/all communication from SLSNZ.

 Competition Eligibility reminder

In order to enter a senior event, participants must hold all general eg. Surf Lifeguard Award/Refresher and specific eg. IRB drivers award/ refresher at the close of entries and for the duration of the event.

High visibility vest guidelines for competitions and training reminder

Rules for high visibility vests are:

● All Competitors and handlers entering the water beyond knee depth shall wear required high visibility vests.

● It is also highly recommended that all members wear high visibility vests in training or activities in open water environments deeper than knee level.

● Vests must be worn over the top of existing swimwear, including any protective clothing that may be allowed (i.e., wetsuit).

● Competitors may be permitted to wear their own vest or Event organisers may supply vests that meet SLSNZ High Visibility Vest Guidelines

● The EMC may at their sole discretion direct individuals, teams or Clubs to replace vests that do not meet the Guidelines.

Our Volunteers

We can't do what we do or achieve what we achieve without our amazing volunteers - here are the members of the Committee.  We would like to thank Alison for stepping up into the role of Craft Coordinator now that Andy has left to live in Lyall Bay. Welcome Alison and thank you!

Situations Vacant

We are looking for someone to take on the role of Health and Safety Office for the Club.  This role has lots of support from SLSNZ and will work closely with the Club's committee.

Contact Kaye on TBSLSC.chair@gmail.com if you are interested.
