This week saw a number of welcomes to important partners who will be working in our school. The carving studio we have been working on installing at the back of the school is almost completed, and we are excited to be able to offer additional whakairo and carving opportunities to both learners and community in the future. We also welcomed Kevin Hapi and Tīhaka (Byron) Koppens who will be working with learners on mau rākau, which is a traditional Māori martial art.
Today we officially welcomed the Sydney Roosters NRL club into our school to solidify the partnership we have committed to going forward. We see this partnership as another way to provide opportunities for young people both at Rolleston College and the wider Selwyn/Christchurch area. I would like to acknowledge the hard work of our Deputy Principal Alby Wilson in this area. Those of you who know Alby well know that he is a man who cares deeply for the local community and is always looking for ways to allow all young people to shine. He is a humble leader and an incredibly hard worker—Kāore te kumara e kōrero mō tōna ake reka.
Good luck to all of the learners auditioning for The Lightning Thief this weekend!
Nga mihi,
Rachel Skelton

Polyfest
Malo e lelei and warm Pasifika greetings! Polyfest practices are underway every Tuesday and Thursday after school until 4:30pm. As we get closer to the event, there will be more practice sessions. Time is flying, and the Polyfest festival is on Saturday 22 March! If you haven't signed up yet, please don't hesitate to reach out to Mr. Vea for more details.
Music practice rooms
Music practice spaces are available to all learners at lunchtimes. If learners would like to use the practice space at lunchtimes, they must email their music teacher or—if they are not a music student—the arts director, shona.cottrell@rollestoncollege.nz.
Practice rooms are the only place learners can practice at lunchtime.
Maths tutorials
Maths tutorials are starting this week!
Our maths tutorials are continuing this year on a Wednesday after school in the cafe area. There are also tutorials at lunchtime in K5 on day 2 and day 4 of the timetable.
Emergency medications
Learners who require emergency medications (inhalers/EpiPens) should carry these on them, in their bag. They can also choose to have a back-up stored at Student Services. EpiPens are now funded for those with anaphylaxis allergic reactions. Funded EpiPens need to be prescribed by a GP, and they can prescribe up to a maximum of two at a time. The GP should complete this action plan, and whānau/parents and caregivers need to provide the plan to Student Services.
Our youth health nursing team can provide further education to learners on how to self administer medications if required. Please contact us if you need support with health-related queries.
