NELSON COLLEGE RUGBY NEWS

The April school holidays are almost over and age grade Rugby kicks off next week! I hope everyone has had a nice break and have prepared yourselves for another winter season of running Rugby. Training's start on Monday with the U17 teams training together and Broads. U14's & U15's start training on Tuesday. Please make sure to come prepared and check out the training venues below. Please note that NIS stands for Nelson Intermediate School. 

The Season Draws will come out very soon. Please make sure to check the link below. With Boarders weekend on May 8th we plan to have games on the front field for parents to enjoy. 

The 2nd XV have a game scheduled on Wednesday 5th May vs. Kahurangi U19's at Riwaka RFC. The time is still to be confirmed. The team will be named soon and will have a practice on Wednesday at 1.30pm on the Front Field. 

The 1st XV have had a busy fortnight starting with a 4 day preseason trip to Wellington. They played Rongotai College 1st XV first up on Wednesday 14th April coming away with a resounding win 77-7. The second game was against a much stronger St Pats Silverstream 1st XV on Friday 16th. The team played some great Rugby and ran in some very good tries winning 38-5. They followed up these two wins on Saturday against a Nelson Rugby Football Club Division 1 & 2 Senior side and again played very well beating them 57-24. The boys can be particularly proud of their attacking record scoring 28 tries across the 3 games and defensively only allowing 6 tries to be scored against them. A superb effort. The final preseason game is this Saturday against Rangiora High School, 1.30pm in Murchison.

The Mile Toyota Championship (formerly the UC Championship) start on May 8th with the 1st XV playing St Andrews College 1st XV at St Andrews College in Christchurch. If you are in Christchurch, please get along and support the team.

1ST XV FUNDRAISING

The 1st XV team members have continued to fund-raise for their season over the holidays going out to Waimea Nurseries for a second time and then to another business where they collected pumpkins for a day.  A huge thank you again to Nathan Inch for finding and organising these fundraisers.
