NELSON COLLEGE RUGBY NEWS

25th May 2021

It was a fantastic autumn day on Saturday and made for great conditions to play Rugby. Nelson College had 7 teams playing with 5 games at home. Thank you to everyone who turned out to support the teams, with a large number coming to watch the 1st XV play St Bede's College. It was great also to meet a number of Old Boys' who attended a function in the Staff room after the game. Nelson College is very fortunate to have such passionate Old Boys' who give so much back to the school to support us. on that note, there is a Old Boys Function in Christchurch this Saturday after the 1st XV play CBHS. Click here for more details.

The 1st XV played St Bede's College in perfect autumn conditions and started strong, taking a 14-0 lead. But St Bede's came back strong dominating possession and territory in the second half and scored two tries, the second try right on full time in the corner. Thankfully for us their kicker was not successful and the team won 14-12 to retain the Trust Bank Cup for a third week. Check out the full match report on the Nelson App. The team travels to Christchurch on Friday to play against Christchurch Boys' High School this Saturday 11.00am at CBHS No.1.

I'd also like thank those parents who attended the Nelson College Rugby Way presentation last Tuesday. It is great to be able to meet you all and be able to present our vision for Rugby at the College to see us into the future. The vision to be a leader in our community and to provide the best Rugby education in New Zealand cannot be done without you support. We really encourage everyone to get in behind us and help drive the key messages of the Nelson College Rugby Way which are sportsmanship, respect, integrity, responsibility and teamwork. Thank you.

Kind Regards

Aim for Fair Play 2021

The Armageddon Aim for Fair Play Initiative started in 2017 and encourages good behavior from players, coaches, parents and spectators with an aim of encouraging teams to play in the “spirit of the game”. Since it's introduction the number of yellow cards issued by referees for foul play has dropped by 62.5%. This initiative is completed through a weekly points system. The 2 teams with the highest average scores (in each grade) upon conclusion of the age-grade season will win the Armageddon paintball reward. See the week 3 table below!
