NELSON COLLEGE RUGBY NEWS

31st May 2021

What a freezing cold, wet and windy day for Rugby it was on Saturday! Our teams still got out and played their Rugby in very slippery conditions coming away with 4 wins, 3 losses and a draw. Please note there will be no games over Queens Birthday weekend and the draw below is for the 12th June.

The 1st XV played Christchurch Boys' High School in wet and cold conditions in in Christchurch. Nelson scored first by way of a penalty try and lead at half-time 7-0. Christchurch played well to level the scores in the second half before we scored a second try to Netani Baleisomosomo. Near full-time the home team scored again to make it 12 all and that was how it finished. Nelson retains the Trust Bank Cup for a fourth week and will defend it at home this Thursday at 12.35pm against Marlborough Boys' College at Nelson College.

The Marlborough Boys' College exchange in on this Thursday and three Nelson College Rugby teams will be taking part. The 1st XV will kick off on the front field at 12.35pm in the main event and will look to retain the Trust Bank Cup and the Whangamoa Trophy. The 2nd XV and U15A teams will both play at Broads kicking off at 10.30am. These should be good to watch with some exciting young players coming through the college at the moment and Marlborough always proving strong opponents. I'm certainly looking forward to these games!

Kind Regards

NELSON COLLEGE CLUB REPORT

On Wednesday 26th May the 2nd XV went to Riwaka to play the Kahurangi U19 team in the second of their three match series. It was a very cold but nice evening at Cooks Reserve and both teams put a lot of effort in to win the game. After winning game one 17-12, the 2nd XV managed to pull off a very similar result winning 17-10 crossing the line for three tries. Their final match with Kahurangi is scheduled for Trafalgar Park on the 23rd June and will no doubt be another close match.

Saturday proved to be a very challenging day for Rugby with a greasy ball making handling tricky. However all teams got out there and played as best they could. Both U15 teams had comfortable wins along with U17 Kahurangi. The U17 Quinns came up against a strong Marlborough Boys' Blue team but stuck in there only losing by 12 points. The U14 grade saw two of our teams go head to head and a very close scoreline with Argentina edging ahead to win by 5 points while U14 Blue suffered a loss to Waimea College. Well done to all the boys who played.
