He mihi aroha ki a koutou, ngā whānau katoa.
We are looking forward to students returning on Thursday. While lessons continued today, staff will be at school tomorrow preparing classes for face to face learning. Students are encouraged to use Wednesday to catch up on any work yet to be completed.
Upon return, there will be some precautions we will have to follow. This email outlines key information that we have available currently.
Masks and Student Health
While not mandatory, Mount Maunganui College will be encouraging staff and students to wear masks at school under Alert Level 2. Students will need to take responsibility for supplying their own masks however we will have a limited number available at student reception.
An important measure to keep Covid-19 out of schools is through encouraging families to keep their child home if they are unwell. If a child is sent to school and they present with symptoms, they will be assessed by our school nurse and sent home if necessary. Making sure students and family members who do present with symptoms get tested is key to school remaining safe for all.
As always, please encourage your children to practice good personal hygiene.
Devices
Any student who borrowed a school device must return it to the school library on Thursday 9 September from 8.45 am. Please do not forget the power cord.
To minimise opportunities for transmitting Covid-19 through the sharing of devices we strongly encourage families to send their child to school with an appropriate device (a chromebook is ideal).
Parents/Caregivers on Site
If you are coming into school for any reason please come to the front office and sign in. You will be required to either register through the Government Covid Tracer App or sign in at the front desk.
Sport at Level 2
We are waiting for Sport New Zealand to provide Alert Level 2 guidelines around sport for schools. Once these are released we will share what this means for our school community.
Bus Services
Travelling on Public Transport and Dedicated School Buses at Alert Level 2
At Alert Level 2, you can travel, but make sure you do it in a safe way.
You will not be able to stand on any urban bus, this may cause capacity issues and you may not be able to board the bus that you would usually use.
Dedicated school bus services can carry standees.
Parents and carers are encouraged to remain with their children at the bus stop, just in case they need to wait for the next available service due to reduced capacity on buses.
The wearing of face coverings is mandatory on all urban bus services (this does not apply to dedicated school buses).
Students are encouraged not to travel if they have cold, flu or COVID-19 symptoms, are awaiting a test or if you need to self-isolate.
Schools are required to maintain a list of which school bus services each student uses to travel to and from school, to facilitate contact tracing if required.
Practise good hygiene habits.
Always Wear a Face Covering on Public Transport
Everyone 12 years and older legally must wear a face covering on public transport at all Alert Levels unless you have an official exemption.
It is encouraged that you wear a face covering on dedicated school buses.
