FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Ngā mihi nui kia koutou katoa,

It was an absolute privilege to welcome our new students into Mount Maunganui College yesterday. While we had to make some changes to the day, it was great to have all students come through our marae and be formally welcomed. I would like to extend a huge thank you to all our families who respected our request to support their children from a distance. Our student and house leaders did a great job taking our new students around the school, making them feel welcome and sharing a few tips along the way.

We also welcomed a number of new staff this week including our new Assistant Principal Renee Draffin. Renee joins us from Putaruru College and is part of our refreshed leadership team, including Erin Porteous and Cameron Andrew in their new roles as Assistant Principals. Michelle Ballard and Brendon-Ray Horlock continue as our existing Deputy Principals/Kaitiaki and Tina Yule as Associate Principal

Richard Cameron joins us from Aquinas College and will be leading our Social Science team as our new Head of Department. Our other new faces are as follows.

  • Tracey Olivier - Dance
  • Ashleigh Young - English
  • Andrew Fredrickson - Guidance
  • Pare Heke-Sweet - Māori
  • Cedrine Pfister - Mathematics
  • Beryl Walker - Mathematics
  • Sally Jackson - Physical Education
  • Sam Davidson - Physical Education
  • Liam Melville - Science
  • Anita Crosby - Science

Having all students onsite today clearly signals that school is back and it is business as (almost) usual. The first few days for all returning students can feel a little overwhelming and it can take a week or two for everyone to settle into a routine. It is important that we have effective communication around your child and the best support you can provide is to contact us if you have any concerns or questions as soon as possible. A list of contacts is provided below.

UNIFORM

As of Tuesday next week we expect full compliance from students in regards to wearing the correct school uniform.   We have appropriate spare uniform pieces for students who need support.

Students without the correct uniform will need a note from home with an explanation and visit Mrs Brambley in B6 to receive a loan item. This will need to be done before school. Please support your child by insisting they wear the correct school uniform at all times. Our uniform expectations can be found by clicking here.

Our uniform supplier is NZ Uniforms in Tauranga.

MAIN ENTRANCE / STAFF CARPARK

We respectfully request parents do not use the staff carpark for student drop off or pick up after school.  The main entrance gates will be locked after school.

PPTA PAID UNION MEETING

On Thursday 24 February there will be a paid union meeting for the teachers PPTA union so we will be finishing school at 12:15pm on this day. The purpose of the hui is for teachers to discuss the possible claims to be made in the 2022 Collective Agreement negotiations.

Students who are unable to return home will be supervised in the school hall.

Unfortunately, the bus service will not be able to run at an earlier time.  The bus service will operate at the usual time for students who may choose to remain at school.  Other than that, students may opt to access the citywide bus service.

Thank you to Paper Plus Mount Maunganui who will continue this year to support our junior reading incentive 'Free book Friday'.
