NSSSA combined Training
Thursday, 4th April, Kaikohe

Kaitaia College students travelled down to Kaikohe to compete in the NSSSA Combined Training. This consisted of one Dressage test and one Show-jumping round.

All the girls and their horses rode beautifully and each placed in their Dressage classes.

Olivia Chuck and her horse, Totally V, competed in the Intro (70cm) and came second in her dressage test, and after an exceptional show jumping round, she placed first overall.

Kylie O’Brien and her horse Starman LPE rode in their first Training height (95cm) and placed fourth in the Dressage. Unfortunately they had two rails down in the show jumping section.

Tara Jones and her horse Night ‘n Day from Taipa Area School placed second in the Dressage and also had two unfortunate rails. All the girls and their horses had a fantastic day and look forward to next year.

NSSSA Equestrian Show-jumping
Wednesday, 13 February at Barge Park, Whangarei

Kaitaia College students, Kylie O’Brien (Year 13, T7) and Olivia Chuck (Year 9, T1) were joined by Laura Wagner (home-schooled) and Zaria Murray (Broadwood Area School) to form a combined Far North team.

It was a huge day with 126 riders and 24 teams competing. Originally the programme was for three rounds of jumping, but they had to cut the final round due to time constraints.

Kylie and her horse, Starman LPE, competed in the 80cm rounds with a field of 60 riders. She jumped very well, taking only one rail in each round. Olivia and her pony, Totally V, competed in the 60cm rounds with a field of 33 riders. She had an awesome round in her second round, coming second overall. Congratulations to both riders.

Thank you to Kaye Ah Sam for being the team coach, Denise Finlayson for joining the judging team, and Heather Deane and the team for organising a superb day. Our riders are now looking forward to the next NSSSA Equestrian event of Combined Training (dressage and show-jumping) on April 4.
