Hawke's Bay Primary Schools' Rugby is the Parent Body of Ross Shield Rugby.  This body is affiliated to the Hawke's Bay Rugby Union.

In 1984 a reunion of ex-Ross Shield players created an emblem that epitomises what the Ross Shield Tournament stands for.  Amid much discussion around a kitchen table, the emblem was developed.

Being Black on White, it reflects the Hawke's Bay Rugby Union's traditional colours.  All five colours of all Sub-Unions are incorporated.

The central feature is the shape, which is indicative of the Ross Shield.  Placed above, is the revered Ross Shield cap.

To the left of the goalpost are symbolic trees and bush, representing the rural aspect of the province.  On the right, sits the symbolic factories and buildings, representing the towns and cities of Hawke's Bay.
