Tū Manawa

Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa (Tū Manawa) is an activation fund that supports tamariki and rangatahi, particularly those that are less active, to access quality play, active recreation, or sport opportunities of their choice in their community or school and kura. 

Applications MUST show evidence that Tamariki and Rangatahi want to participate in the opportunites offered. This may be through either survey results (collated), images of a whiteboard brainstorm or feedback session, videos of young people talking etc. The key thing is to show us that you’ve consulted with young people and your activity is what they want or need.

The major funding round is open until 31 July 2024, for applications
up to $30,000.

Tū Manawa Focus


Tū Manawa focusses on addressing the barriers that tamariki and rangatahi face in accessing a quality play, active recreation and sport opportunity.

The fund targets those that are less active, aged 5-18 years. These groups can include:

  • Less equitable communities 

  • Asian and/or Pasifika demographic

  • Girls and young women 

  • Disabled tamariki and rangatahi
