OBITUARY:  LEO FALLENI  1929 – 2013

Sadly we have to report on the passing of a well known Softball identity who passed away on 6th January, 2013, aged 84 years.

Leo was a player with the old Poneke Softball Club from the days of it’s inception in the late 1940’s.  He was a great Club man, an excellent fielder and batter, and was extremely fast.  Leo also played with great skill for the Poneke Rugby Club, and he was always held in esteem for his sporting abilities.

His trade was as a Hairdresser, and heaps of Rugby and Softball blokes used his services.  He worked right through the old “short back and sides” era, and always reckoned that when the shaggy long haired time came in it cost him heaps.

Leo carried on as a Bowler, and also became a well known Wellington Sports Commentator.  He did play a few times for the Wellington Evergreens in the early days, both for Softball and Bowls.

Leo had a great smiling personality, and he will be sadly missed by his family and wide circle of friends.
