Teams supply their own umpire.

Your umpire is controlling your team's game, so make sure they have some experience and knowledge of the rules.

The Umpire's responsibilities are as follows:

  • Supply your own whistle and pass wrist band.

  • Some experience and knowledge of the rules are necessary to ensure a good game for all.

  • Arrive at least 10 minutes before the game (the draw will be on the website) to:

  1. Collect the scorecard, ball and bibs

  2. Organize the centre pass with the two team captains

  3. Sort out the “even” pass and record on the scorecard

  4. Organise a scorer

  5. Sort out which direction you are umpiring

  6. Check nails, hair and jewellery (all usual netball rules apply)

At the start of the game:

  1. There will be a few short bursts to get teams ready on court, this is not the start!

  2. You MUST start on the central hooter, this is when the timer starts - it will be one long blast.

  3. Each half is 13 minutes, (Y5/6 is 10 minutes)

At half-time (1 minute long):

  1. Teams will basically just swap ends, however, they can change positions if they wish to

  2. Check the scorecard has been filled out and ensure the even pass is recorded

  3. Once again there will be a few short bursts to get teams ready on court.

  4. You MUST start on the central hooter again - another long blast

At the end of the game:

  • Return the scorecard to the registration table

Injury Time:

  • There is no injury time.  You can stop the game at your discretion to allow an injured player to “catch their breath” or to leave the court.  A substitute player can come on.

Umpires have the right to warn a player for inappropriate play/verbal abuse - the umpire will record the player's name on the scorecard.

A record will be kept of warnings on the team sheet. A second warning will result in the withdrawal of the player concerned.

If the team accumulates several warnings the manager will be informed, the team may be withdrawn from the competition.

In this instance - No fees will be refunded.

This is at the discretion of the Golden Oldies Summer League Organisers.
