Selection Policy for Competitive Senior Teams 2024

Objectives

To have ability grouped players to enter in the Selwyn Senior competition at the appropriate level for each player’s ability and development stage. Players to be selected by ability in a fair transparent way which will result in identifying, attracting, developing and retaining netball players and improving the skills of the players


Selection Policy

  • All players must be financial members of the Ellesmere Combined Netball Club.
  • Senior players must be school year 9 or above and under 29.
  • Selection into a team is done over a period of skills and game sessions.
  • Players must attend a minimum of three trial/training sessions to be considered.
  • Players can only be selected into a team without attending these sessions under exceptional circumstances. This is to be at the discretion of the Management Committee.
  • Players are selected on ability but consideration must also be made of the age of the player and the grade the player was in the previous year, as well as their preference for playing with friend groups.
  • Selectors will endeavour to obtain information regarding players prior to placement.
  • Teams of 8 to be selected, dependent on club numbers.
  •  Players to be informed of their selection on the Ellesmere Combined Netball Club website within a week of the final session.


Selection Procedure

  • Selections will be done over a series of training sessions.
  • Trial/training sessions to be advertised on the Ellesmere Combined Netball Club website, relevant social media and through local schools.
  • Selectors will be in attendance at the sessions. Selectors cannot be a close relative of any team candidates unless this is the A team coach.
  • Selectors will include the A team coach and may include a non ECNC club member.

Team Criteria

  • Players are required to be available for one training session a week and for Saturday matches. (refer to match criteria policy)
  • Players are required to maintain their own level of physical fitness.
  • Players are required to do umpiring duties if and when their team is allocated.
  • Players are required to abide by the ECNC policies and procedures.
  • Players are required to play in a higher team if that team has shortages during the season.

The selection policy and procedures are reviewed annually and may be altered to meet the needs of selection.

Selection Policy for Social and Masters Teams 2024

Objectives

Ellesmere Combined Netball Club supports players who wish to play netball for enjoyment, fitness, for the love of the game and the social aspect of the sport playing with friends. Players will be supported to form teams to enter in the Selwyn Social Competition.

Selection Policy

  • All players must be financial members of Ellesmere Combined Netball Club..
  • Social and Masters teams can have up to 12 players registered at any one time.
  • Players must be 25 and over as of the 1st of January.
  • Social and Masters teams, in consultation with all team members, are responsible for the composition of their team members.
  • Social team selection is not done at trials.
  • Players are required to abide by the clubs policies and procedures.

Team Criteria

  • Players are not expected to train but if a social team wishes to, Ellesmere Combined Netball Club provides the facilities and equipment to do so.
  • Social and Masters players are not expected to be available for matches every week, however when a player becomes unavailable they need to consider if there is someone to cover their position.
  • Players should give the team organiser plenty of notice if they are going to be unavailable.

Selection Policy for Year 9 and 10 Teams 2024

Objectives

Players to be selected primarily by ability with consideration to their well-being, at the appropriate level for each player’s ability and development stage. They are to be entered in the Selwyn Netball Centre senior competition. Players to be selected by ability in a fair transparent way which will result in identifying, attracting, developing and retaining netball players and improving the skills of the players


Selection Policy

  • All players must be financial members of the Ellesmere Combined Netball Club.
  • Players must be school Year 9 or 10.
  • Selection into a team is done over a period of weeks of skills and game sessions.
  • Players must attend a minimum of three trial/training sessions to be considered.
  • Players can only be selected into a team without attending these sessions under exceptional circumstances. This is to be at the discretion of the Management Committee.
  • Players are primarily selected on ability with consideration to their well-being.
  • Selectors will endeavour to obtain information regarding players prior to placement.
  • Teams of 8 to be selected, dependent on club numbers.
  •  Players to be informed of their selection on the Ellesmere Combined Netball Club website within a week of the final session.

Selection Policy for Primary Teams Year 7 & 8 2024

Objectives

To group players in a team to enter in the Selwyn Year 7/8 competition at the appropriate level for each player’s ability, development and social well-being which will result in identifying, attracting, developing and retaining netball players and improving the skills of the players.


Selection policy

  • All players must be financial members of Ellesmere Combined Netball Club.
  • Players must be in school Years 7 or 8.
  • Selection into a team is done over a period  of three skills and game sessions.
  • Players can only be selected into a team without attending these sessions under exceptional circumstances. This is to be at the discretion of the Management Committee.
  • Selectors will endeavour to obtain information regarding players prior to placement.
  • Teams of 8 to be selected, dependent on club numbers.
  • Players will be informed of their selection on the ECNC website within a week of the final session. 


Selection Procedure

Selection Policy for Primary Teams Year 5 & 6 2024

Objectives

To place players into a team which will then be entered into the SNC Year 5-6 development programme. To develop netball skills and enhance the enjoyment of playing netball through training and Saturday games.


Selection Policy

  • All players must be financial members of our club.
  • Players must be in school years 5 or 6.
  • Selection into a team is done by a panel of selectors.
  • Up to 10 players can be selected for each team but 8 is recommended by SNC.
  • Teams will be selected on age, year 5 and year 6 and then depending on numbers there may be a year 5/6 team.
  • Players are encouraged to attend a skills and games session. Selectors will watch this session to ensure that any year 5 player who is placed in a mixed team has the skill to play with older players.
  • Year 4 players can only be selected into a year 5/6 team in exceptional circumstances. Approval from the SNC executive has to be granted for this.


Selection Procedure

  • Players to register with the club online.
  • Players to attend a skills and games session.
  • Any player unable to attend this session will be placed into a team based on age.
  • The selectors may discuss selection with the junior coordinator.
  • The parent/caregiver of all players will be consulted to ensure the well-being of the player in regards to team placement (via our registration form).

Selection Policy for Coaches & Managers

  • Coaches are selected by the coaching convener working with the management committee.
  • Expressions of interest should be sent to the coaching convener with details of experience.
